Privacy Policy

This policy explains how My Backyard Home handles personal information. It describes our current soft-launch practices only and will be updated as the marketplace develops.

Draft for legal review. This is a preliminary draft prepared for a soft launch. We recommend it be reviewed by an Australian lawyer before any full transactional launch.

Who we are

My Backyard Home is an Australian online marketplace that helps people discover and compare backyard homes, studios and secondary dwellings, and helps suppliers apply to list their products.

Information we collect

  • Supplier applications. Business name, trading name, ABN/ACN, contact name, email, phone, website, states and regions serviced, product information and free-text responses you provide in the supplier expression-of-interest form.
  • File uploads. Optional PDF brochures uploaded with a supplier application. These are stored in a private storage bucket that is not publicly readable.
  • User accounts. If you create an account, your email address, an authentication record and your display name (if provided).
  • Property and address information. Addresses and property details you enter into the planning checker or an enquiry. Address entry may use Google Places autocomplete, which sends what you type to Google to return address suggestions.
  • Enquiries and projects. Enquiry details, preferences and any project records created when you are signed in.
  • Technical information. Standard server and hosting logs generated when you use the site.

How we use it

We use this information to operate the marketplace: to assess supplier applications, respond to enquiries, provide preliminary planning guidance, create and display your project records, and improve the service. Supplier application details are used to evaluate suitability for listing.

We do not sell personal information. We do not currently run advertising or marketing analytics profiling on this site.

Who can see it

Supplier applications, uploaded brochures, enquiries and project records are private. They are accessible only to authorised My Backyard Home administrators and, where relevant to progressing a project, to the supplier involved. They are not publicly listed and are not accessible to anonymous visitors.

Hosting and service providers

The site and its database, authentication and file storage run on Lovable Cloud, which is built on Supabase-compatible infrastructure, with hosting and content delivery provided by our platform partners. Address autocomplete is provided by Google Maps Platform. These providers process data on our behalf under their own terms and security controls.

Security

Access to stored data is protected by authentication and row-level security policies, so records are readable only by the account that owns them or by an authorised administrator. Uploaded files are held in a private bucket with no public read access. Data is transmitted over HTTPS. No online service can guarantee absolute security, and we cannot warrant that transmission over the internet is completely secure.

Retention

We keep supplier applications and uploaded brochures for as long as needed to assess and, if successful, onboard the supplier, and afterwards for our business records. Account and project records are kept while the account is active. You can ask us to delete information you have provided, and we will do so unless we are required to keep it.

Access, correction and complaints

You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Contact us through our contact page. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).

Cookies

We use only the storage necessary to keep you signed in and to remember basic preferences. We do not currently use third-party advertising cookies.

Changes

We will update this policy as the marketplace develops, including before enabling payments or other transactional features.
